In todays North American socializing teenagers are exposed to thousands of messages a day due to the media. Teenagers nigh of the time are not aware of the media messages they are receiving and the tack together it has on their acquaintances and expectations in life. Media apricot advertisements are an example of the character of messages that teenagers come into contact with that are used to alter and line culture (Greenberg & Elliot 2008). Media ads today have taken on the assurance of defining salmon pink and creating beauty prototypes to sell products (Greenberg & Elliot 2008). A beauty prototype may be described as an empyreal type used to categorizes people or objectsgenerally youth focused emphasizing physical attractiveness and thinness (Greenberg and Elliot 2008: 105). Greenberg and Elliot (2008) rely that there is a standard for female beauty that has been promoted in the media. The interviewee participating is a 17 year old female who engages with the media on a periodic basis whether it be watching television or development a magazine. In-depth interviewing is one of the popular methods used in qualitative research because it allows the researcher to emphasize openness and gives the participant great freedom to express their views (Bryman & Teevan 2005).
